Make 1 Purlwise (M1P)
M1P is the purl-side equivalent of M1L: a lifted increase made by purling into the bar between stitches. Used when an increase is called for on a wrong-side row in stockinette, or anywhere a purled increase is needed.
Recommended A printable technique cheat-sheet for your knitting bag.
Method
With the left needle, lift the bar between stitches from front to back. Purl the lifted bar through the back loop. The increase reads as a purl bump on the wrong side and a knit "V" on the right side.
Visual
Almost invisible from the right side — the new stitch blends into the surrounding stockinette without the bar of KFB or PFB.
In partnership Tools and supplies that make this technique easier.
When to use
On wrong-side rows where M1 (knit) would be called for on the right side. In reverse stockinette, where the stitch above the increase is purled.
Common error
Purling the lifted bar through the front loop leaves a hole. Always purl through the back loop to close the bar.

In depth
M1P brings the cleanest invisible increase technique to wrong-side rows. The result is indistinguishable from M1L worked on a right-side row and is the standard wrong-side increase in modern Western patterns.
