Gauge & stitch calculator
Two small calculators built on the same maths in every gauge swatch: multiply your stitches-per-inch by the inches you need. Bookmark this page — it works for any pattern, on or off this site.
1. Stitches & rows for a finished size
Enter your own gauge (from a blocked swatch) and the finished width or length you want, and get the stitch or row count to work.
Always swatch, wash and block it the way you'll treat the finished piece, then measure — see the gauge swatch guide.
2. Re-gauge a pattern to your tension
A pattern is written at one gauge; your swatch knits up at another. Scale the pattern's stitch or row count to your gauge instead of re-writing the whole pattern.
Round to a multiple that matches the pattern's stitch repeat (e.g. a multiple of 4 for 2×2 rib) rather than the nearest whole number — see the stitch chart guide.
