Decrease Bind Off (k2tog Bind Off)
A bind off worked entirely with k2tog rather than the standard pass-over method. Faster than the standard bind off and slightly stretchier with no learning curve.
Recommended A printable technique cheat-sheet for your knitting bag.
Method
Knit 2 stitches together. Slip the resulting stitch back to the left needle. Repeat across.
Why it is faster
Each bind-off stitch is one motion (k2tog and slip back) instead of two (knit, lift over). For long bind-off rows, the time saving is substantial.
In partnership Tools and supplies that make this technique easier.
Stretch
Slightly stretchier than the standard bind off because each stitch is decreased rather than passed over. Comparable to the suspended bind off.
Best uses
A solid all-purpose bind off for long edges where speed matters. Dishcloths, blankets, and any garment edge that does not need maximum stretch.

Tips
- Slip the resulting stitch back to the left needle by passing the right needle from front to back.
- Use a slightly larger needle for stretchier bind off.
- For maximum stretch on ribbing, use Jeny's instead.
In depth
The decrease bind off (k2tog bind off) replaces the standard pass-over motion with a k2tog. The result is a slightly different chain that bends more easily and stretches more under load — a useful upgrade for casual projects without the learning curve of more advanced bind offs.
