MATERIALS — Bear Brand Jumbolaine or Fleisher's Jumbo-Knit, 9 skeins.
Bucilla Plastic or Wooden Needles, 1 pair Size 13.
Bucilla Plastic Crochet Hook, Size 6.
KNITTED GAUGE: 13 sts = 4 inches
Cast on 150 sts for long edge of stole. P 1 row.
Short rows—Row 1—K 148 sts.
Row 2—Turn, slip 1 st as to p, p 145 sts.
Row 3—Turn, slip 1 st as to p, k 143 sts.
Row 4—Turn, slip 1 st, p 141 sts.
Continue in this way to work 2 sts less every row until 2 sts remain in last row, end with p row.
Next row—Turn, slip 1 st, place 75 sts of right hand needle on a heavy strand of yarn for one short edge. Begin border on other short edge.
BORDER—Row 1—right side—K 1, * inc. 1 st by knitting 1 st in slipped st in row below, k 2; repeat from *, end last repeat k 1, inc. 1 st in last st; 113 sts.

2nd HALF OF BORDER—Take up 75 sts from thread. Begin at outer edge from right side.
Row 1—* K 2, inc. 1 st as before; repeat from *, end inc. 1 st in last st; 113 sts. Finish 2nd half to correspond to first half of border. Sew seam at center of border.
Pin out to given measurements, and steam lightly.
FRINGE—Cut an 8-in. cardboard. Working from wrong side, hold cardboard in back of work, with loop on hook, insert hook through both loops of first st of bound-off edge, draw up a loop, yarn around cardboard, yo, through 2 loops on hook, * draw up a loop through next st as before, yarn around cardboard, yo, through 2 loops; repeat from * to end of bound-off edge. Fasten off.
From right side, work 1 row sc on ends of borders and cast-on edge.
