MATERIAL:
2 balls Sock yarn, 3 ply (1 oz. ball)
1 set sock needles each No. 1 and No. 2
Elastic thread for cuff (12 yards)
1 card Nylon for reinforcement of heel and toe

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st round: * K 3, P 2, repeat from * around.
2nd round: * Pull the last of the 3 K. sts. over the 2 ether K sts., and let it drop, K 1, y. o., K 1, P 2, repeat from * around.
3rd round: * K 3, P 2, repeat from * around.
Repeat these 3 rounds for pattern.

Cast on 60 sts. with wool and elastic thread on No. 1 needles and work in ribbing K 2, P 2 for 5 rounds. Cut off elastic thread. Change to No. 2 needles and pattern, and work even until sock measures 4½ inch. Now divide the sts. as follows: slip next 30 sts. on 1 needle for heel, divide the rem. 30 sts. on 2 needles for instep. Work over heel sts. only. Attach Nylon. 1st row: * slip 1, K 1, re­peat from * across row. 2nd row: P across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 26 rows ending with a P row. Turn heel on right side: slip 1, K 16, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 5, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 6, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 7, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 8, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 9, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 10, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Continue this way always working 1 more st. on each row until 18 sts. are left on heel needle. Cut off nylon. With another needle (first needle), pick up and K 13 sts. alongside of heel. Work across all instep sts. in pattern (2nd needle). With another needle, pick up and K 13 sts. along other side of heel and K on to same needle 9 sts. of heel needle. Slip the rem. 9 sts. of heel needle on to 1st needle, ending at center of sole. Decr, for instep as follows: 1st round: K across 1st needle, work across 2nd needle in pattern, K across 3rd needle. 2nd round: On 1st needle, K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. Work in pattern across 2nd needle. On 3rd needle, K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K st. K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 60 sts. left in round. Work even until sock measures from back of heel for size 9—7 inch.; for size 9½—7½ inch.; for size 10—8 inch, or 2 inch, less than desired length when finished. Now shape toe as follows: Attach Nylon—1st round: K around. 2nd round: K to within 3 sts. of 1st needle, K 2 tog., K 1. On 2nd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K st., K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. On 3rd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1, p.s.s.o. the K st., K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 24 sts. left (for all sizes). Weave sts. together. Steam lightly.
