Scale: 7 sts. to 1 in.
Jack Frost Sport Yarn—2 2-oz. Balls
Cast on 60 sts. Divide on 3 needles. Join, being careful not to twist. Work in ribbing of P. 2, K. 2, for 3 in. K. 1 round, increasing to 66 sts. at even intervals around.
PATTERN—(Start thumb gusset on first round as given below). * P. 4, K. 4, repeat from * for 5 rounds. On 6th round, cable over all ribs of K. 4 as follows: * slip the first 2 sts. of the K. 4 onto a double pointed needle. Hold in back of work. K. the next 2 sts., then bring the 2 sts. which were slipped, forward, and K. them. P. 4, repeat from * around. On next round, reverse pattern, knitting 4 over rib of P. 4, and purling 4 over rib of K. 4, repeating cables every 6th round, and reversing pattern as described above. On first round of pattern, work to within last 2 sts., place marker for thumb, and increase in each of next 2 sts. (Starting of thumb gusset). Work 2 rounds even. On 4th round, work to within last 4 sts., increase 1 st., K. 1, increase 1 st., K. 1. Work 2 rounds even. On next round work to within last 6 sts., increase 1 st., K. 3, increase 1 st., K. 1. Continue increasing every 3rd round, having 2 more sts. between markers, until there are 21 sts. between increases. On next round slip 23 sts. for thumb gusset to strand of yarn, join. Work even for 4 complete patterns.
FIRST FINGER—K. 11 sts., slip all remaining sts. but the last 7 on strand of yarn, cast on 4 sts., K. the 7 sts. Divide on 3 needles, and work 32 rounds, then, * K. 2 tog., repeat from * until 3 sts. are left. Break yarn and draw through all sts. Fasten off.
SECOND FINGER—Slip the next 8 sts. from strand of yarn to needle, and K. them. Cast on 4 sts., slip 8 sts. from other end of strand of yarn, then pick up 4 sts. from base of first finger. Divide on 3 needles. Work for 35 rounds, finish same as first finger.
THIRD FINGER—Slip the next 7 sts. from strand of yarn to needle and K. them. Cast on 4 sts., K. 7 sts. from other end of strand of yarn, pick up 4 sts. from base of second finger. Work 30 rounds, finish same as first finger.
FOURTH FINGER—Slip all sts. on needles, pick up 4 sts. from base of 3rd finger. K. 22 rounds. Finish same as first finger.
THUMB—Slip sts. from strand of yarn to needles. Pick up 2 sts., decreasing them in next round. Work 22 rounds even. Finish same as first finger. Work other glove to correspond.
