Pleated Skirt Pattern #161

Size 3, Size 5 in parenthesis

MATERIAL:
2 balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball)
1 circular knitting needle No. 2 and No. 3, 24 inch length
2  pearl buttons
Grosgrain ribbon to line the straps

GAUGE: 7½ sts. = 1 inch

Cast on 180 (192) sts. on No. 2 circular needle. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing K1, P1 for 1¾ (2¼) inch. Change to No. 3 circular needle and pattern K5, P1. Work even for 2½ (3) inch. Increase 1 st. in each P gore and work in pattern K5, P2 for 2¼ (2¾) inch. Increase 1 st. in each P gore and work in pattern K5, P3 for 2¼ (2¾) inch. Incr. 1 st. in each P gore and work in pattern K5, P4 for 2 (3) inch. or any desired length. Bind off K as K and P as P.

STRAP: Cast on 12 (14) sts. and K1, P1 for 12 (13) inch. or any des. length. Next row: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, bind off 2 (4) sts for buttonhole, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1. Next row: work in ribbing and cast on 2 (4) sts. over the 2 (4) bound off sts. of previous row. Work in ribbing to end of row. From now on, continue to work in ribbing, but decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 2 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work other strap to correspond.

FINISHING: Line the straps with grosgrain ribbon and sew them to center of back 2 inch. apart. Sew on 2 buttons to center of front 2 inch. apart. Steam lightly.
