MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY WOOL, 4 balls (1 oz. Balls).
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 3 (3 mm. Size).
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 5.
2 small buttons.

GAUGE: 7 sts make 1 inch; 11 rows make 1 inch.

BACK … Cast on 76 sts and work ¾ inch in ribbing of k 2, p 2, increasing 5 sts on last row (81 sts). Next row: K 1, * p 1, k 1. Repeat from * across. Repeat this row until piece measures 9 inches in all.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st at end of each row until 69 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 3 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Next row: Work across 27 sts, bind off 15 sts (for back of neck), work across remaining 27 sts. Work over these last 27 sts, binding off 2 sts at neck edge twice. Then dec. 1 st at neck edge every other row until 19 sts remain. Armhole should measure 4 inches. Bind off. Work other side to correspond.

NECK BAND … With right side toward you, pick up 40 sts along neck edge. Work ¾ inch in ribbing. Bind off in ribbing.

FRONT … Work as for Back until armhole measures 2¼ inches (69 sts). Next row: Work across 27 sts, bind off 15 sts (front neck shaping), work across remaining 27 sts. Work over these last 27 sts, binding off 2 sts at neck edge twice. Then dec. 1 st at neck edge every other row until 19 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 4 inches. Bind off. Work other side to correspond.

NECK BAND … With right side toward you, pick up 48 sts and work as for back neck band. Sew up shoulder seams, leaving ¾ inch free at each side of neck edge. Make a ch-5 buttonloop on ribbing at both sides of front neck band. Sew on buttons to correspond with loops.

SLEEVES … With right side facing, pick up 59 sts around armhole. Work in pattern for 9 inches, decreasing 7 sts on last row. Work 2 inches in ribbing. Bind off in ribbing.
    Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Press through damp cloth.
