MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART SHETLAND FLOSS, 6 balls (1 oz. balls) for the set, all sizes. If made separately, pullover requires 4 balls, pants require 3 balls.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 0 (2 mm. size) and 1 pair No. 3 (3 mm. size).
2 buttons for pants.
1 yd. grosgrain ribbon to line suspenders, if desired.

GAUGE: (Stockinette stitch) 7 sts make 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

PULLOVER
Sizes	1	2	3
BACK … Starting at bottom, with No. 0 needles, cast on	69 sts	75 sts	81 sts
K 1, p 1 alternately across, ending with k 1. Repeat this row for 1 inch (moss stitch).	All sizes
Change to No. 3 needles and knit across. Next row: K 2, p across to within last 2 sts, k 2 (the 2 sts at each edge are knitted on each row throughout). Next row: K across. Repeat the last 2 rows alternately (stockinette stitch) until piece measures, in all	8" all sizes
Place a marker at both ends of work. Continue straight until piece measures, in all	10½"	11"	11"
Next row: Work across the first	24 sts	26 sts	28 sts
Bind off for neck shaping the next	21 sts	23 sts	25 sts
Work across the remaining	24 sts	26 sts	28 sts
Work over this last set of sts, decreasing 1 st at neck edge each row until there remain	16 sts	18 sts	20 sts
Piece should now measure, in all	11½"	12"	12"
Bind off. Attach yarn and work opposite side to correspond.	All sizes
BACK NECK BAND … With No. 0 needles, right side facing, pick up along neck edge	40 sts	42 sts	44 sts
Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for ¾ inch. Bind off in ribbing.	All sizes
FRONT … Work exactly as for Back until piece measures	8" all sizes
Place a marker at both ends of work (sleeve sts will be picked up between markers of Front and Back) and continue straight until piece measures, in all	10"	10½"	10½"
Next row: Work across the first	25 sts	27 sts	29 sts
Bind off for neck the next	19 sts	21 sts	23 sts
Work across the remaining	25 sts	27 sts	29 sts
Work over this last set of sts, decreasing 1 st at neck edge each row until there remain	16 sts	18 sts	20 sts
Work straight until piece measures in all, along armhole edge	11½"	12"	12"

FRONT NECK BAND … With No. 0 needles, right side facing, pick up along neck edge	42 sts	46 sts	50 sts
Work as for Back neck band.	All sizes
Sew up shoulder seams, including neck band.	All sizes
SLEEVES … With No. 3 needles, right side facing, pick up between markers	52 sts	56 sts	56 sts
Keeping 2 border sts at each end k sts throughout, work straight in stockinette stitch for	2"	2½"	3"
Dec. 1 st inside border at both ends of next row and one row every ¾ inch thereafter until there remain	40 sts	44 sts	44 sts
Work straight until sleeve measures, in all	8"	8½"	9"
Change to No. 0 needles and work across entire row in moss stitch for 1 inch. Bind off.	All sizes
Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Press through damp cloth.
PANTS

Starting at lower edge of right leg, with No. 0 needles cast on	35 sts	39 sts	43 sts
K 1, p 1 alternately across, ending with k 1. Repeat this row for ¾ inch (moss stitch).	All sizes
Change to No. 3 needles and k across. Next row: P across to within last 2 sts, k 2. These last 2 sts at right edge are knitted on each row (except when working moss stitch). Repeat the last 2 rows alternately (stockinette stitch) until piece measures, ending with a k row (center)	2"	2½"	2½"
Lay this piece aside and work another piece to correspond, having the 2 garter sts at opposite edge and ending with a p row (center). Cast on 1 st, then work across sts of first piece. There are in all	71 sts	79 sts	87 sts
Keeping 2 sts at each end in garter stitch, continue in stockinette stitch until piece measures (ending with a p row)	8½"	9"	9"
Next row: K across the first	20 sts	22 sts	24 sts
P 1, k 1 alternately across the next	31 sts	35 sts	39 sts
K across remaining sts. Keeping the center group of sts in ribbing of k 1, p 1, continue as before until piece measures	10"	10½"	10½"
Change to No. 0 needles and work in moss stitch across	20 sts	22 sts	24 sts
Place these sts on a spare needle.
With No. 3 needle bind off the ribbed section very loosely. With No. 0 needles work in moss stitch over the remaining sts. Work over these last	20 sts	22 sts	24 sts
In moss stitch for 1 inch. Bind off loosely in pattern. Attach yarn and work opposite side to correspond. Make another piece like this.	All sizes
CROTCH … With No. 0 needles cast on 11 sts and work in stockinette stitch for 1½ inches. Bind off loosely.	All sizes
SUSPENDERS (Make 2) … Cast on 7 sts on No. 0 needles and work in moss stitch for	14"	14½"	15"
Make a buttonhole 2 sts in from edge—to make a buttonhole, on one row bind off 3 sts; on next row cast on 3 sts to replace those bound off. Work ½ inch in moss stitch. Bind off.	All sizes
Sew in crotch (when crotch is folded diagonally, fold is lower edge), and seam inner edges of legs. Seam side edges. If desired, line suspenders with grosgrain ribbon to prevent stretching. Sew buttons on Front for suspenders; button on the suspenders, and sew other ends in place at back. Suspenders may be worn crossed at back. Press through damp cloth.
