Pattern

MATERIAL:
2 balls Sport yarn (1 oz. ball)
1 card Nylon for heel and toe reinforcement
1 set sock needles No. 2

GAUGE: 6½ sts. — 1 inch

Cable pattern for cuff:
1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds: * K 6, P 6, repeat from * across round.
4th round: * slip next 3 sts. to an extra needle and hold in back of work, K next 3 sts., K the 3 sts. from extra needle (a cable made), P 6, repeat from * across round.
5th, 6th, 7th rounds: like 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds.
8th, 9th, 10th rounds: * P 6, K 6, repeat from * across round
11th round: * P 6, cable the K 6 sts. as before, re­peat from * across round
12th, 13th and 14th rounds: like 8th, 9th and 10th rounds.
Repeat these 14 rounds for pattern

Cast on 60 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in pattern for 2½ inch, or any desired width for cuff. Turn work inside out (wrong side of cuff is right side of sock), K plain for 3½ inch, or any desired length to heel. Now divide the sts. as follows: Slip next 30 sts. on one needle for heel, divide the rem. 30 sts. evenly on 2 needles for instep. Work over heel needle only and attach Nylon. 1st row: * slip 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. 2nd row: slip 1, P across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 24 rows, ending with a P row. Turn heel on right side: slip 1, K 16, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 5, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 6, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 7, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 8, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 9, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Continue this way always working 1 more st. on each row until 18 sts. are left on needle. K across heel needle. Cut off Nylon. With another needle pick up and K 14 sts. Along side of heel (1st needle). K across all instep sts. (2nd needle). With another needle pick up and K 14 sts. along other side of heel and K on to the same needle 9 sts. of heel needle (3rd needle). Slip remaining 9 sts. of heel needle on to first needle, ending at center of sole. Decr, for instep as follows: 1st round: K around, 2nd round: On first needle K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. K across 2nd needle. On 3rd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and pass the slipped st. over the K st. K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 56 sts. left in round. Work even until sock measures from back of heel for size 9— 7 inch.; for size 9½—7½ inch.; for size 10—8 inch; for size 10½—8½ inch.; for size 11—9 inch., or 2 inch, less than desired length when finished. Now shape toe as follows: Attach Nylon. 1st round: K around. 2nd round: K to within 3 sts. of first needle, K 2 tog., K 1. On 2nd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and pass the slipped st. over the K St., K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. On 3rd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1, and pass the slipped st. over the K st. K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 24 sts. left (for all sizes). Weave sts. together.
