"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN
2—70 yd. skeins (all sizes) Yellow
1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 8 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLE WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch

Directions are given for small size.
Changes for medium and large sizes given in parentheses.

Cast on 35 (43, 51) sts. 1st ROW: K across row. 2nd ROW: Inc in 1st st, K 16 (20, 24), K the strand before next st (to inc: K the horizontal yarn between the 2 sts), K 1, K the strand after next st (inc), all center inc will be worked in same manner, K 16 (20, 24), inc in last st. 3rd AND ALL UNEVEN ROWS: K across each row. 4th ROW: Inc in 1st st, K 17 (21, 25), inc, K 3, inc, K 17 (21, 25), inc in last st. 6th ROW: Inc in 1st st, K 18 (22, 26), inc, K 5, inc, K 18 (22, 26), inc in last st. 8th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 7, inc, K 20 (24, 28). 10th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 9, inc, K 20 (24 ,28). 12th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 11, inc, K 20 (24, 28). 14th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 13, inc, K 20 (24, 28). For last 2 sizes work as follows: 15th and 16th ROWS: K across each row. 15th (17th, 17th) ROWS: K across 35 (39, 43) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 11, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 33 (37, 41) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across 33 (37, 41) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 9, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 31 (35, 39) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across 31 (35, 39) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 7, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 29 (33, 37) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across row counting the Y O as a st. Bind off leaving a length of yarn to weave back lower seams tog, matching rows and stitches. CORD: Cut three 1 yd. lengths. Tie one end, braid tightly, tie other end. Lace through beading. POMPONS: (Make 2.) Wind yarn 25 times over a 2¾ inch cardboard and tie in cen­ter. Cut both ends and trim into shape. Tie to each end of cord. Work another slipper in same manner.
