Knitted Chair Set Pattern #7092

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 7 balls of Ecru.
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Six Strand, 2 skeins of Dk. Cardinal.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size).

When completed, head rest measures about 24 inches across and 12 inches at deepest point. Each arm piece measures about 7½ inches across and 9½ inches at deepest point.

Gauge: 8 sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.

Head Rest. Starting at top, cast on 198 sts. 1st row: * K 30, p 2, k 8, p 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 30. 2nd row: * P 30, k 2, p 8, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 30. 3rd to 6th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. 7th row: * K 30, p 2, then make a cable (to make a cable, slip next 4 sts onto a stitch holder; keeping the stitch holder in back of work, k the next 4 sts, then k the sts on stitch holder), p 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 30. 8th to 14th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. Repeat the last 8 rows (7th to 14th rows incl.) until piece measures 5 inches. On next row, with right side of work toward you, k across 72 sts and continue in pattern across next 54 sts, then k 72 (thus changing the 2 outer cables into stockinette st). Work straight until piece measures 6 inches. Then bind off 30 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows (138 sts) and continue in cable pattern as before until piece measures 7 inches. Hereafter work in stockinette st only until piece measures 9 inches. Then bind off 40 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows (58 sts). Work over remaining 58 sts until piece measures 12 inches in all. Bind off.

Embroidery. With Dk. Cardinal Six Strand work blanket stitch, ¼ inch apart, all around edges. Then, with 2 strands of Knitting and Crochet Cotton, whip along the outer edges of blanket stitch with over-and-over stitches.

Arm Pieces. Starting at top, cast on 63 sts. 1st row: * K 13, p 2, k 8, p 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 13. 2nd row: * P 13, k 2, p 8, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 13. 3rd to 6th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. 7th row: * K 13, p 2, make a cable, p 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 13. 8th to 14th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. Repeat the last 8 rows (7th to 14th rows incl.) until piece measures 6 inches. Then change all sts into stockinette st and work until piece measures 8½ inches. Bind off 15 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then work over remaining 33 sts until piece measures 9½ inches. Bind off.

Embroidery. Work as for head rest.
