Knitted Baby Set Pattern #722

REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 5 ounces of 3-ply Baby Yarn or 3-ply Nylon.
NEEDLES: 1 pair No. 4 Single Pointed.

GAUGE: 2 patterns make 3¼ inches.

PATTERN: Row 1: Knit 3 sts, * yarn over, knit 4, k 2 together twice; knit 4, yarn over, k 1; repeat from * across row, ending with yarn over, knit last 3 sts. Row 2: Knit 3 sts, purl across row to within last 3 sts, knit 3 sts. Row 3: Knit across row. Repeat these 3 rows for the pattern.

SWEATER: Note: Sweater is made in one piece up to the underarm. Cast on 161 sts and knit 4 rows. Now work in the pattern until the piece measures 6 inches in all, ending with row 3 of pattern. Decrease row: Knit 9 sts, * k 2 tog, k 5; repeat from * across to within last 10 sts, knit 10 sts (140 sts). Knit next row. Separations: Knit 38 sts and leave on the needle; place the next 64 sts for the back onto a stitch holder; the remaining 38 sts for the front onto another stitch holder. Front: On the sts that are on the needle work in garter stitch (knit every row) until the armhole measures 2¼ inches above the underarm. Neck shaping: At the front edge, bind off 11 sts once; work to armhole. Decrease 1 st at the neck edge every other row 6 times. Work until the armhole measures 3¼ inches in all. Bind off all sts loosely. 2nd front: Place the 38 sts off st holder onto the needle; tie yarn in and work to correspond to the first front.

BACK: Place the 64 sts off the st holder onto the needle; tie yarn in and work in garter stitch until the armhole measures 3¼ inches in all. Bind off all sts.

SLEEVES: Cast on 57 sts and knit 4 rows. Now work in the pattern until the sleeve measures 7 inches in all, ending with row 3. Knit 3 rows. Bind off all sts loosely on the next row. Make the other sleeve the same way.

FINISHING: Sew the shoulders together. Sew up the sleeve and sew them into the armhole, matching the underarms. Neck band: With the right side of the work facing you, pick up and knit 71 sts around the neck edge. Knit 1 row. Beading row: Knit 2 sts, * yarn over, k 2 tog; k 1, repeat from * across row, ending with yarn over, k 2 tog, k 1. Knit 2 rows. Bind off all sts.

BONNET: Starting at the front edge, cast on 83 sts. Knit 4 rows. Work in the pattern until the piece measures 4½ inches in all, ending with row 3. From now on work in garter stitch (knit every row). 1st dec: * Knit 10 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 2nd dec: * Knit 9 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 3rd dec: * Knit 8 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 4th dec: * Knit 7 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 5th dec: * Knit 6 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 6th dec: * Knit 5 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 7th dec: * Knit 4 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 8th dec: * Knit 3 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 9th dec: * Knit 2 sts, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. 10th dec: * Knit 1 st, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Knit next row. Last dec: Knit 2 sts together across row. Break yarn leaving 12 inches. Thread a darning needle and draw thru the remaining sts and fasten tightly on wrong side. Sew up the garter stitch part. Neck band: With the right side of the work facing you, pick up and knit 54 sts around the neck. Knit 1 row. Beading row: Knit 2 sts, * yarn over, k 2 tog, k 1; repeat from * across row. Knit 2 rows. Bind off loosely. Trim with ribbon.

BOOTIES: Cast on 44 sts and knit 4 rows. Now work in the pattern until the piece measures 2½ inches in all, ending with row 3 of pattern. Knit next row. Beading row: Knit 2 sts, * yarn over, k 2 tog, k 1; repeat from * across row, ending with yarn over, k 2 tog, k 1. Knit next row. Instep: Knit 16 sts and place onto a st holder, knit 12 sts and leave on the needle; place remaining 16 sts onto a 2nd st holder. On these 12 sts, knit 19 rows. Break yarn. Place the sts off first st holder onto a free needle, tie yarn in near instep; pick up and knit 10 sts along side of instep; knit across 12 sts, pick up and knit 10 sts along 2nd side of instep, knit 16 sts off 2nd st holder (64 sts). Knit 3 rows. 1st dec: K 1, k 2 tog, k 21, k 2 tog, k 12, k 2 tog, k 21, k 2 tog, k 1. Knit 3 rows. 2nd dec: K 1, k 2 tog, k 19 sts, k 2 tog, k 12, k 2 tog, k 19, k 2 tog, k 1. Knit 3 rows. 3rd dec: K 1, k 2 tog, k 17, k 2 tog, k 12, k 2 tog, k 17, k 2 tog, k 1. Knit 1 row. Bind off all sts. Sew back and sole of bootie.
