MATERIALS
BERNAT MOHAIRLAINE (1 oz. balls) — 1 for hat — 4 for scarf
1 set BERNAT-Aero d p needles No. 8 (Canadian Needles No. 6)
OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW

GAUGE
5 sts = 1 inch; 6 rounds = 1 inch in stockinette st
4 sts = 1 inch; 7 rows (3½ ridges) = 1 inch in garter st

HAT

Cast on 96 sts. K 1 round, P 1 round in garter st for 20 rounds (10 ridges). Then K round and round in stockinette st until piece measures 7 inches. DEC ROUND: K 2 tog around — 48 sts. Repeat this round until 12 sts remain. Break off yarn, leaving a 12 inch end. Draw end through sts on needle and pull up tightly.

SCARF

Cast on 40 sts. K to desired length in garter st. Bind off loosely. FRINGE: Cut strands of yarn 8 inches long. Knot 2 strands in every other st across each short end. Trim ends.
