MATERIALS
BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 5(6-6) Main Color (M C) and 5 Contrasting Color (C C)
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 10 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 steel crochet hook No. 0
3 yds 1 inch grosgrain ribbon
10 buttons and 1 small button

GAUGE: 7 sts = 2 inches; 17 rows = 2 inches

NOTE: This stitch will work on a slight slant and must be straightened by blocking after the pieces are completed. Block before sewing.

PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 2 sts.
Row 1: Using C C, K 2, * K under the thread lying between the left and right hand needles, K 2, repeat from * across row.
Row 2: Using C C, * K 1, K 2 tog, repeat from * to last 2 sts, K 2.
Row 3: Using M C, K 1, * K under the thread lying be­tween the left and right hand needles, K 2, repeat from * ending K 1, instead of K 2.
Row 4: Using M C, * K 1, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern stitch.

NOTE: The back is made in two pieces.

RIGHT BACK: Using M C, cast on 34(36-38) sts. K 1 row. Work even in pattern st until piece measures 9 (9-9½) inches, ending with a wrong side row. SHAPE DOLMAN SLEEVE: At arm edge inc 1 st and repeat this inc every 6th row 5 times more and every 4th row 4 times — 44(46-48) sts. At same edge cast on 4 sts 8 times. Work even on 76(78-80) sts until sleeve measures 4¾(5-5¼) inches above last group of cast on sts. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 8(10-12) sts once and 6 sts 9 times. Bind off re­maining 14 sts.

LEFT BACK: Work to correspond to right back, reversing all shaping.

LEFT FRONT: Work to correspond to right back until sleeve measures 4¼(4½-4¾) inches above last group of cast on sts. SHAPE NECK: At front edge bind off 6 sts once and 3 sts once. SHAPE SHOULDER: Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times, at arm edge bind off 8(10-12) sts once and 6 sts 9 times.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.

COLLAR: Make 2 pieces. Using M C, cast on 12 sts. K 1 row. Work even in pattern st until piece measures 8 inches. Using M C, bind off.

FINISHING: Sew underarm and shoulder seams, leaving a 2 inch opening at lower edge of sleeves. Using M C, work 1 row s c around entire jacket and sleeves and 2 short and 1 long edges of collar pieces. Reblock. Face front edges and center edges of back with ribbon. Sew back tog, lapping right back over left back for 1 inch. Sew collar pieces to neck edge, lapping right piece over left piece for ½ inch at center back. Sew 1 button through both thicknesses of collar at center back. Starting 5 inches above lower edge, sew 6 buttons evenly spaced on center back. On right front of collar spread 2 sts to form buttonhole and buttonhole stitch around. Sew a button on left side of collar. Make a buttonloop at neckline of right front and sew small button on left front. Overlap front of sleeve opening for 1 inch and sew on a button 2 inches above lower edge.
