MATERIALS
BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 1 each of Main Color (M C) and Color A
BERNAT Bob-o-Germantown (20 yd. cards) — 2 Color B
1 set d p needles No. 5 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch; 8 rows or rounds = 1 inch
DIRECTIONS: Using M C, cast on 108 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. K round and round for 4 rounds. Round 5: * Y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * around. K 9 rounds. Join C C, and P 1 round. Using C C, K 5 rounds. Break off C C. Using M C, P 1 round. K 7 rounds. Join Colors A and B and, following Chart A, work design in stockinette st until chart has been completed. Break off Colors A and B. Using M C, K 1 round. K the next round, dec at even intervals to 100 sts. SHAPE TOP: Round 1: * K 2 tog 4 times, K 12, repeat from * around — 20 sts decreased. Round 2: * K 2 tog twice, K 12, repeat from * around — 10 sts decreased. Round 3: * K 12, sl 1, K 1, psso, repeat from * around — 5 sts decreased. Round 4: * K 11, sl 1, K 1, psso, repeat from * around — 5 sts decreased. Continue in this manner to dec 5 sts in one round EVERY ROUND, having 1 st less between decreases on each dec round, until 40 sts remain. K 1 round. BEADING: * Y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * around. K 5 rounds. On next round work beading in same manner as before. Break off M C. Join C C, and K 5 rounds. On next round work beading in same manner as before. K 1 round. Bind off. EARLAPS: Using M C, with right side facing you and starting in 8th st from beg of round, pick up 25 sts along cast on edge. Work back and forth in stockinette st for 5 rows. On next row K 2 tog, K 6, put a marker in work and following chart B work next 9 sts, put a marker in work, K 6, K 2 tog. Continuing to dec 1 st each end of needle every other row, following chart B work design on the 9 sts between markers until chart is completed. Break off Colors A and B. Working in M C stockinette st, continue to dec 1 st each end of needle every other row until 3 sts remain. CHIN STRAP: Continue in stockinette st on these 3 sts until desired length. Bind off. Leaving 16 sts free for center back, work another earlap in same manner.
FINISHING: Hem upper and lower edges. CORD: Using 2 strands each of remaining M C and C C, make a twisted cord. Run cord through beading at top and tie. Steam.
