All sizes

MATERIAL:
3 balls Sock yarn 3 ply (1 oz. ball)
1 set sock needles each No. 1 and No. 2
1 card Nylon for heel and toe reinforcement

GAUGE: 7½ sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st to 6th rounds incl.: * K 4, P 2, repeat from * across round.
7th round: * K the 2nd st. from the back (do not slip off the needle), K the first st. from the front, slip both loops off the needle tog. K the 4th st. from the front (do not slip off the needle), K the 3rd st. from the front, slip both loops off the needle tog., P repeat from * across round.
8th round: * K 4, P 2, repeat from * across round.
9th round: like 7th round.
10th round: like 8th round.
11th round: like 7th round.
Repeat these 11 rounds for pattern.

With No. 1 needles cast on 66 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 3 inch. Change to No. 2 needles and pattern. Work even until sock measures 9 inch. Slip next 32 sts. (starting with a P 2 rib, and ending with a P 2 rib) to one needle for heel, and divide the rem. 34 sts. for instep on two needles. Work over heel needle only. Attach Nylon. 1st row: * slip 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. 2nd row: P across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 30 rows. Start to shape heel: (with right side facing you) Slip 1, K 17, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 5, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 6, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 7, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 8, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 9, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Continue this way, always working 1 st. more on each row until 18 sts. are left on heel needle. With another needle (first needle), pick up and K 16 sts. along one side of heel. Work across instep sts. in pattern. With another needle (3rd needle), pick up and K 16 sts. along other side of heel and K half of heel sts. to same needle. Slip the remaining heel sts. to first needle, end at center of sole. Decrease for instep as follows: 1st round: On first needle K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. Work across instep sts. in pattern. On 3rd needle: K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K st. K to end. 2nd round: K around. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 66 sts. left in round. Work even until foot measures from tip of heel 8½ inch, for size 10½; 9 inch for size 11, or 2 inch, less than desired length when finished. Start toe decrease: Attach Nylon. 1st round: K around and decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of the instep needle. There are now 64 sts. in round. 2nd round: On first needle K to within 2 sts., K 2 tog. On 2nd needle: K 2 tog., K to within 2 sts., K 2 tog. On 3rd needle: K 2 tog., K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until 20 sts. are left in round. Weave sts. tog. Steam lightly.
