MATERIALS
BERNAT Cuddlespun (2 oz. skeins) — 8(8-9)
1 pair each plastic knitting needles Nos. 8 and 15 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 steel crochet hook No. 0
7 buttons
1½ yds 2 inch grosgrain ribbon

GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch

BACK: Using No. 8 needles, cast on 42(44-48) sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 3 inches, inc 1 st at end of last row. Change to No. 15 needles and work in stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of needle every 1½ inches 5 times. Work even on 53(55-59) sts until piece measures 12½(12½-13) inches. SHAPE RAGLAN ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 2 sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 16(17-18) times. Work even on 17(17-19) sts until armholes measure 9¼(9½-9¾) inches. Sl 17(17-19) sts on a holder.

CABLE PATTERN: To be worked on 6 sts as designated.
Row 1: P 1, K 4, P 1.
Row 2: K 1, P 4, K 1.
Row 3: P 1, sl next 2 sts to d p needle and hold in back of work, K next 2 sts, K 2 sts from d p needle, P 1.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Repeat these 4 rows for cable pattern stitch.

LEFT FRONT: Using No. 8 needles, cast on 24(26-28) sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 3 inches, inc 1 st at end of last row. Change to No. 15 needles and P 5, put a marker on needle, P 6, put a marker on needle, P 14(16-18). Keeping 6 sts between markers in cable pattern st and all other sts in stockinette st, inc 1 st at arm edge every 1½ inches 5 times. Work even in pattern st on 30(32-34) sts until piece meas­ures 12½(12½-13) inches. SHAPE RAGLAN ARMHOLE: At arm edge bind off 2 sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 14(15-16) times and AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 6½(6¾-7) inches, SHAPE NECK: At front edge sl 8(9-10) sts on a holder. Bind off 2 sts at same edge 3 times.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and forming first buttonhole when piece measures 1 inch. BUTTONHOLE: Starting at front edge, work 1 st, bind off the next 3 sts, work to end of row. On the next row cast on 3 sts over those bound off previous row. Make 6 more buttonholes, evenly spaced — the last one to be made in neckband.

SLEEVES: Using No. 8 needles, cast on 34(36-38) sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 2 inches. Change to No. 15 needles and work in stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of needle every 2½ inches 3 times. Work even on 40(42-44) sts until piece measures 13(13-13½) inches. SHAPE RAGLAN CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 2 sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 14(15-16) times. Mark 1 edge as front of sleeve. Continuing to dec 1 st at back edge every other row twice more, at front edge bind off 2 sts 3 times. On second sleeve reverse top shaping.

FINISHING:Sew sleeves to back and front armholes. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. NECKBAND: Using No. 8 needles, with right side facing you pick up 61(63-65) sts around neck, including sts from holders. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 2 rows. On the next row work another buttonhole in same manner as before on right front. Continue in ribbing until piece measures 1 inch. Bind off. Work 1 row s c on front edges. Block to size. Face fronts with ribbon. Sew on buttons. Finish buttonholes.
