MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY WOOL, 4 balls (1 oz. balls) for size 2; 5 balls for size 3.
CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS, 1 skein each of Blue and Brown.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2½ mm. size) and 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).
3 buttons.

GAUGE: 7½ sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.

BACK … Starting at the crotch, with No. 4 needles cast on	11 sts	13 sts
Work in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row), casting on 3 sts at end of each row until there are on needle	59 sts	79 sts
Cast on 2 sts at end of each row until there are	83 sts	91 sts
K 1 row. Next row: K 2, purl to within last 2 sts, k 2. Following row: K across. Repeat the last 2 rows alternately (2 sts in garter stitch at both ends) until piece measures, from first cast-on sts (measure down center of piece)	9"	9½"
Change to No. 2 needles, decreasing 11 sts evenly across row to	72 sts	80 sts
Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for	1½" both sizes
Change to No. 4 needles and work straight in stockinette stitch (2 sts in garter stitch at both ends) for	6½"	7"
Bind off for shoulder the first	20 sts	23 sts
Bind off loosely for back of neck the following	32 sts	34 sts
Bind off for other shoulder the remaining	20 sts	23 sts
FRONT … Work as for Back until piece measures, from top of ribbing	5½"	6"
Bind off as for Back.	Both sizes
LEFT SLEEVE … With No. 2 needles cast on	44 sts	48 sts
Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 1½ inches. Change to No. 4 needles, increasing 12 sts evenly across row. Sts on needle	56 sts	60 sts
Work in stockinette stitch, with 2 sts at both ends in garter stitch, for	7½"	8"
Next row: (Right side) Bind off the first	27 sts	29 sts
Knit remaining sts. Following row: Bind off the first	20 sts	22 sts
For shoulder insert, work in stockinette stitch over the remaining 9 sts for	2¾"	3"
Bind off.	Both sizes
RIGHT SLEEVE … Work to correspond, reversing shapings.	Both sizes
Sew side seams of rompers, starting at lower edge and sewing to	2¾"	3"
above top of waist ribbing.
Sew up sleeve seams. Set in right sleeve, matching underarm seams and sewing shoulder insert to front and back shoulders. Set in left sleeve, but do not sew back of insert to left shoulder of Back.	Both sizes
NECK BAND … With right side facing, using No. 2 needles, pick up 10 sts along neck edge of shoulder insert of left sleeve. Pick up across front of neck	38 sts	42 sts
Pick up sts around remainder of neck to correspond. There are on needle	96 sts	104 sts
Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for ¾ inch. Bind off loosely in ribbing. Sew seam in left shoulder, leaving a 2-inch opening at neck.	Both sizes
LEG BANDS … With right side facing, using No. 2 needles and starting at end of the first cast-on	11 sts	13 sts
Pick up along leg opening	84 sts	96 sts
Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for ¾ inch. Bind off loosely in ribbing.	Both sizes
Work 2 rows of s c along ends of crotch, including ends of leg bands. Sew on 3 snap fasteners at crotch. Work a row of s c along neck opening, making three ch-3 button-loops on front edge. Sew on buttons.
EMBROIDERY … Split Embroidery Floss and use 4 strands. Embroider a sailboat (see diagram) as in illustration, using Brown for mast and Blue for remainder.
