MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 4 balls (¾ oz. balls) for Infant Size 2; 5 balls for Infant Size 3 … Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size) … 9 buttons … 1 yard of ribbon, ½ inch wide.

GAUGE: (Stockinette st) 8 sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.

Sizes  

FRONT … Starting at crotch, cast on 16 sts. Work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row), increasing 1 st at end of each row until there are 20 sts. Now cast on 4 sts at end of each row until there are on needle

Cast on 2 sts at end of each row until there are on needle

Cast on 6 sts at end of next 2 rows. There are on needle

Work straight until piece measures from last cast-on sts

Next row: Work across, decreasing 20 sts evenly across. There are on needle For waistband, work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for ¾ inch. Work top as fol­lows: 1st row: With right side facing, k across. 2nd row: P 7, O, (k 2 tog) twice; O, purl O, (k 2 tog) twice; O, purl O, (k 2 tog) twice; O, purl

O, (k 2 tog) twice; O, p 7.

Repeat last 2 rows alternately, increas­ing 1 st at both ends of next row and every 3rd row thereafter until there are on needle

Note: Work all increased sts in stock­inette st.

Work straight until piece measures 1½ inches from top of waistband.

To Shape Armholes: Keeping con­tinuity of pattern, bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows and 2 sts at beginning of following 4 rows. Dec 1 st at end of each row until there remain

Work straight until piece measures from top of waistband

Next row: With right side facing, k across. Following row: Work in pat­tern across k across next Work in pattern across remaining Repeat last 2 rows alternately until piece measures from top of waistband Next row: Work across bind off for front of neck next Work across remaining

Work in pattern, as established, over this last set of sts only for 1½ inches. Bind off. Attach yarn at opposite side of neck edge and work other side to correspond.

BACK … Work exactly the same as Front to top of waistband. Continue in stockinette st, shaping underarm edges and armholes same as Front. Work straight until piece measures from top of waistband

Continue straight, only working the center

in garter st (k each row), until piece measures same as Front. Bind off.

SLEEVES … Cast on

Work in garter st for ½ inch. Next row: Knit across

K twice in each of the next 10 sts, k remaining Following row: Purl across * O, (k 2 tog) twice; O, p 6. Repeat from * once more; O, (k 2 tog) twice; O, p across Next row: K across. Repeat last 2 rows alternately, increasing 1 st at end of each row until there are on row

Work straight until piece measures 2 inches in all.

To Shape Top: Bind off 3 sts at be­ginning of next 2 rows and 2 sts at beginning of following 2 rows. Dec 1 st at end of each row until there remain

Bind off.

Press pieces through damp cloth. Sew side seams.

LEG BANDS … With right side facing, pick up and knit along edge of leg opening

Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for ¾ inch. Bind off in ribbing.

Starting at armhole edge, sew each shoulder seam for ¼ inch. Sew sleeve seams and sew sleeves in, easing in any fullness across shoulder. Work a row of sc along shoulder openings and neck edge, making 3 buttonloops on each shoulder of front. Work a row of sc along edges of crotch, making 3 but­tonloops on front edge. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonloops. Run ribbon through ribbing of waistband and tie in back.
