CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY BUNT­ING POMPADOUR, (¾ oz. balls), 4 balls for size 2; 5 balls for size 3.
Clark's O.N.T. Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 1 and 1 pair No. 3.
7 buttons.
GAUGE: 7 sts make 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

BACK … With No. 1 needles cast on

1st row: K 4, * p 2, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending with k 4. 2nd row: K 2, p 2 alternately across, ending with k 2. Repeat these 2 rows alternately until piece measures 1 inch, ending with 2nd row. Change to No. 3 needles. Next row: K across. Following row: K 2, p across to last 2 sts, k 2. Repeat these 2 rows alternately until piece measures in all

LEFT FRONT … With No. 1 needles cast on

RIGHT FRONT … Work to corre­spond with Left Front, reversing borders and making a buttonhole 2 sts in from front edge when piece measures

LEFT SLEEVE … With No. 3 needles cast on 14 sts for shoulder insert. Work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) for

With right side facing, starting at marker on Left Front and using other needle, pick up 19 sts to top of side edge. K across the 14 sts of shoulder insert, then, starting at top edge, pick up 19 sts along left side of Back. Work in stockinette st, with 2 sts at each side in garter st, on these 52 sts for

Change to No. 1 needles and work in rib­bing of k 2, p 2 (still keeping garter st at both sides) for 2 inches. Bind off in ribbing.
RIGHT SLEEVE … Work to cor­respond with Left Sleeve.
NECKBAND … Sew shoulder insert in place, leaving 2½ inches free for front of neck. Half the cast-on sts of insert are sewn to extension of back, thus leaving 1 inch free for side of neck. Using No. 1 needles, with right side facing, pick up 94 sts around neck edge. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 3 rows. Make a buttonhole in line with previous buttonholes, then work in ribbing until there are 6 rows in all. Bind off in rib­bing.
Sew side and sleeve seams with one con­tinuous seam. Work 1 row of sl st along front edges. Press lightly with hot iron through damp cloth. Sew on buttons.
