Afghan Pattern Style No. 3782

Pattern

Size — approximately 62 x 70 inches

MATERIALS

BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 18 Black, 4 each Almond Green and Claret, 2 Blue Bell and 1 each Lavender and Horizon Blue

1 pair plastic knitting needles No. 10 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW

1 steel crochet hook No. 0

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch; 8 rows = 1 inch

STRIPED PANELS: Make 3. Using Black, cast on 44 sts. Work even in garter st as follows: * 8 rows Black, 16 rows Green, 2 rows Black, 10 rows Blue Bell, 2 rows Green, 6 rows Horizon Blue, 4 rows Black, 6 rows Lavender, 24 rows Claret, repeat from * until piece measures approxi­mately 70 inches, ending with 8 rows Black. Bind off.

PLAIN PANELS: Make 4. Using Black, cast on 28 sts. Work even in garter st until piece measures same length as striped panels and there are the same number of rows.

FINISHING: ROPE JOINING: Hold long edge of one plain and one striped panel tog, wrong sides touching. Join 1 strand of Black and 1 strand of Green at end of strip, draw up a loop through first ridge of each panel, using Black, * ch 4 sts very tightly, drop Black to back of work, remove crochet hook, bring Green to front of work, skip 2 ridges and work 1 s c through next ridge on both panels, ch 4 very tightly, drop Green to back of work and remove crochet hook, bring Black to front of work, skip 2 ridges and work 1 s c through next ridge on both panels, repeat from * to end of panels. Join all panels in this manner, alternating plain and striped panels and having outer panels plain. Using Black, work 1 row s c around entire afghan. Block. FRINGE: Using Black, cut strands of yarn 15 inches long. Using 4 strands, knot a fringe in every other st across each short end.
