CARRIAGE COVER: With No. 4 needles cast on 168 sts.
Pattern:
Row 1— * K 8, P 8, repeat from * across row, ending K 8.
Row 2— * P 8, K 8, repeat from * across row, ending P 8.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 three times.
Row 9— * P 8, K 8, repeat from * across row, ending with P 8.
Row 10— * K 8, P 8, repeat from * across row, ending with K 8.
Repeat rows 9 and 10 three times.
Repeat these 16 rows until cover measures 36 inches.
Bind off.
BORDER: With No. 5 crochet hook, work 1 row of sc around cover.
SWEATER-BACK: With No. 2 needles cast on 56 sts.
K 1, P 1, for 2 inches. Change needles to No. 4.
Work in pattern as follows:
Row 1— * K 8, P 8, repeat from * across row ending K 8.
Row 2— * P 8, K 8, repeat from * across row ending P 8.
Repeat row 1 and 2 three times.
Row 9— * P 8, K 8, repeat from * across row ending P 8.
Row 10— * K 8, P 8, repeat from * across row ending K 8.
Repeat rows 9 and 10 three times.
Repeat these 16 rows to underarm, 8 inches.
Bind off 4 sts each side, work until armhole measures 4 inches.
Bind off 16 sts at the beginning of each row for shoulders.
Bind off.
FRONT: With No. 2 needles cast on 32 sts. K 1, P 1, for 2 inches.
Change to No. 4 needles, work in pattern to underarm.
Bind off 4 sts at armhole side. Work until armhole measures 3 inches.
Bind off 9 sts at neck edge, then K 2 tog. at neck edge every row 3 times.
Work even until armhole measures the same as back.
Bind off 16 sts for shoulder.
Work other side the same.
SLEEVE: With No. 2 needles cast on 32 sts. K 1, P 1, for 1½ inches.
Increase to 40 sts across the row, change to No. 4 needles.
Work in pattern until sleeve measures 8 inches.
Bind off 4 sts each side, then K 2 tog. each side every other row until 20 sts are left.
Bind off.
Sew shoulders, underarm and sleeve seams.
Sew sleeves in place.
NECK BAND: On right side of work pick up 56 sts. K. K 1, for 1 inch. Bind off.
BUTTONHOLE BORDER: With No. 4 crochet hook, right front, work 1 sc in each st for 2 rows.
3rd row—Sc in first 2 sts * chain 2, skip 2, sc in next 8 sts, repeat from * to end.
Work sc in each st making 2 sc over the chain 2.
Left front—sc in each st. Work 4 rows.
HAT: With No. 2 needles cast on 64 sts. K 1, P 1, for 1 inch.
Change to No. 4 needles, work in pattern for 4¾ inches.
Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row until all sts are gone.
Fold cap and sew back seam.
NECKBAND: With No. 2 needles on right side of work pick up 42 sts. K 1, P 1, for 1 inch.
Bind off.
BOOTIES: With No. 4 needles cast on 32 sts. K 1, P 1, for 1 inch.
Work in pattern for 3½ inches.
Work over 10 sts slip these on st holder, work over 12 sts slip last 10 sts on st holder.
Knit on center 12 sts for 1½ inches.
Pick up 6 sts on each side, then slip all sts on needles, knit for 1½ inches.
Bind off.
Sew up soles and back seam.
Trim with ribbon.
